A lovely piece of expertly carved antique limestone, the style is very similar to elements found in old French & English churches & cloisters. I’ve no solid information on where this piece originates from , other than i bought it in the South west of England.
The form is a leafy scroll, almost rococco in style, which could potentially date it to the mid 1700’s. I’s a nice size and not too heavy (around 3kg), it would make an elegant feature in a study, and is small enough to fit on a desk or a book shelf. Perfect for capturing those classical academia vibes…
